Crazy gas cylinders sellers in Cairo

The concept of safety can change depending on the country we visit. When visiting Egypt, we can easily notice that this is one of those countries!

Here we can see men hanging from buildings to stick advertising posters, people driving motorcycles with no helmet, and – as we can see in the picture - a man working with visibly old gas tanks and smoking a cigarette in the meanwhile. Fortunately, there were no accidents, and I can share this picture with you all!

Let’s all welcome to our new contributor, Simona Campidano!

Sexy lingerie stores in Downtown Cairo

Walking down the streets of Downtown Cairo, you’ll see that there are hundreds of clothing stores. Some sell more conservative vests like the ones below, beautifully displayed in a shop window.

Funny because this could be enough for some “Mister Obvious” to draw conclusions on Middle Eastern women’s clothing and all. You know. Blah blah.

Then you walk a few more meters and you find…

…Another WTF moment!

It would feel awkward for me to enter a shop like this in Cairo, but I assume someone buys this kind of lingerie, and I always wondered who!

Have you ever seen these shops in Downtown Cairo? I think they are funny:)

Muslims and Christians are one hand

This is the kind of writing that you can find on the walls of Cairo – I took this photo with my mobile while walking in Mounira, just outside Downtown Cairo.

Muslims and Christians are one hand

It’s so amazing when you start learning some Arabic and can understand what is written here and there. Like a child, you find yourself trying to read basically anything you see on the way: traffic signs, ads, etc.

I couldn’t help but stopping and taking a pic of this when I realized its meaning:

مسلم + مسيحي  = يد واحدة

Muslim + Masihi = eed wahda

Muslims + Christians = one hand

I don’t know about you, but I was deeply touched by it. Religious unity in Egypt is a fact, and it’s great that someone took his time to spread the word writing this message on Cairo’s walls.

After all, there’s an Egyptian say that goes like:

الدين لله و الوطن للجميع

Al din lellah , wal watan lele gamiaa

Religion is for God , and country is for everybody

Did you ever see anything like this in other countries?
