Qasr el Nil bridge (in Arabic كوبري قصر النيل ”Kobry Qasr el Nil”) connects Downtown Cairo to the island of Zamalek, right in the heart of the city.
If you imaginarily follow this couple you’ll end up on the other side of the bridge and directly into Tahrir Square.
This bridge was the location of clashes and fights during the Revolution and the recent protests, but this doesn’t mean that in everyday life there’s nothing interesting going on here!
There are little tables and chairs set up on the sides of the bridge, so that if you want you can sit and have something to eat or drink, or even smoke a shisha. You just have to stop a guy and ask him what you want to have and he will provide it for you. From where? I don’t know exactly…
On each side of the bridge there are 2 lions that became one of the symbols of the Revolution. You can literally spot lines of people taking photos of themselves with the lion. So when in Cairo, do as Caireans do and don’t forget to take a photo of you and this landmark! All the writings below the statue are Revolution-related.
You can have a quick drink while enjoying the view…
There are some unique boats on the Nile! This one looks like a Solar Boat from Ancient Egypt’s mythology.
Qasr el Nil Bridge is definitely a great place to enjoy Cairo’s beauty. :)

Beautiful! I saw many men carrying those pretzels while I was in Cairo this past weekend. Sadly, I didn’t know the lions were a symbol of the revolution, though. :-/ Apparently everyone else does, since they’re lining up to have their photos taken with them.
